Structure for Unstructured Times

Structure for Unstructured Times

While many of us are forced to work from home, we face a lot of challenges that we are not accustomed to.

If you’re anything like me, the days are starting to run together and it’s not as easy staying on task. Whether you are having difficulty with work productivity, snacking too much, or getting your workouts in, you are not alone. Here are a few habits that we start building in order to promote productivity.

Plan out your day in advance. Write out a list of things you need to get done and plan out when you’re doing each of them. You can do this a few different ways. You can either write it all down for your whole week OR each night, plan out your next day. Personally, I find it easier to take it day by day and check things off as I go. You can use your phone or write things out, whatever works best for you!

Designate eating times. Now that you’re home, you have access to food whenever you want. This can be dangerous if you’re stressed or bored. The best way to manage this is by planning out your eating times. Know how much you want to eat and how much water you want to drink and manage it accordingly. This can be the perfect time to get your diet on point! If you’ve been struggling with managing your macros or getting enough water in daily, you have your kitchen right next to you! Just don’t abuse it and eat unnecessarily. Easier said than done, but if you plan properly you can benefit greatly.

Challenge yourself with something new. You may have been putting off starting a new book, learning a new language or instrument. Maybe you want to write or draw. Now is a great time to challenge yourself and do just that. Even if it’s as simple as playing a board game or video game, do something that challenges you and that you can enjoy.

The biggest excuse people use is “I don’t have enough time” and now we are looking at a lot of time! Plan your day out, prioritize correctly and push yourself to be productive during these crazy times. Build structure for these unstructured times and take that structure into your life even when the craziness blows over.

I hope you all are safe and healthy. Sending love your way!
